you are here >

You will need...
Some clay
a candle
some objects to make prints from
paints
pva glue
glitter

First of all, knead your clay so its really easy to push and pull. This can be quite tricky and you may need a little water to stop it from getting too dry. But just a little occasionally otherwise it goes all sticky!

When its nice and soft, make it into a ball and push it down so it has a flat base. then use the bottom of the candle to press into the clay about 2cm deep. You now have your basic candle holder.

Now the fun bit… use fingers, pencil tips, the base of a jar, anything you can to imprint shapes into the clay all around the base. When you are happy with it, gently remove the candle, and allow to dry for 24 hours somewhere warm. When the clay has finally dried you can paint it any colour you like. Let that dry and coat in pva glue and sprinkle with lots of glitter! When that dries you can pop the candle back into the center and you have a candle holder, a really really nice gift for someone special x

You will need:
Cardboard
Compass, or two circular items you can trace around.
Wool
Scissors

Use a compass to draw a circle on 2 pieces of cardboard, 5cm in diameter. Then in the centre draw a 2cm circles inside of your larger circles. If you’re using a compass just use the same centre point both times. If you don’t have a compass to hand you can find 2 circular objects, one larger than the other. Cut around the large circles, then cut out the circles in the middle.

Get some wool ready, cutting it into 2 meter sections, this will make it much easier to thread through. Place the 2 rings of card together and begin winding the wool in through the middle of the ring and then back around the edge. Go in and out all the way around the ring, until you can't see any cardboard

The next bit can be tricky so ask a grown up to help if needed. Start cutting the wool with some scissors on the outer edge. Cut the top layer and then the layers beneath until you can one scissor edge between the card rings. Keep cutting until all of the outer edge of card can be see. Then put a fairly long piece of wool between the card rings and wrap all around the bundle of wool in the center until the ends meet to be tied in a nice tight knot. Cut off the card ring and trim off any long strands. Now you have a fluffy POM POM!
